Marmoleum, sequestrates more CO2 emissions than are caused by raw material production and transportation and manufacturing processes, thanks to its renewable plant-based raw materials, we maximize the recycled content by including both pre-industrial as well as post-consumer recycled content. At the end of its life, it can be recycled and transformed into new flooring, again and again.
In Marmoleum Cocoa we aim to maximize the % of recycled content. We combine material recovered from installation waste and uplifted floors with internally recycled production waste. Additional recycled inputs, such as wood flour and cocoa shells from other industries, further contribute to its circular composition. As a result, Marmoleum Cocoa contains 38% recycled content, 14% of that is recycled pre-and/or post-consumer flooring waste. The balance between the pre- and post-consumer waste varies, due to availability of installation waste and old floors through our Back to the Floor program.
The right mix between pre- and post-consumer material is needed to guarantee flooring product quality. The quality of post-consumer material is very challenging. To guarantee high quality flooring our recycled content is fully tested against health and safety norms, before we reuse it in our new floors.
